Club House
The Club House facilities are available for members to use including toilets and changing
rooms. If it is not already open we have a key (provided that someone remembers to bring it). There is also an externally
accessible toilet which is usually kept open.
Tennis Balls
Balls are provided by the club and are changed regularly. Should you be last on court please take the balls
you are using home with you and bring them back to the next session to be re-united with their compatriots. It is
advisable to collect-up any of your own balls as soon as the club balls are brought out otherwise you risk losing them
in the crowd if they are similar to the club balls. Currently the club uses Wilson US Open balls, all of which are identical
and interchangeable. This means they can be shared freely and there is no need to retrieve balls that wander on
to other courts. When the balls are changed the old balls are given away to club members for their own use in the hope
that a few tubes will be kept in people's bags for the odd occassion when the club balls have gone awol.
Active Courts
For each session the Groundsman selects the 6 best courts to use and puts the nets up on these. Please use
these courts rather than moving the nets to a court that looks better since it may have been treated or be out of action for
some other reason such as an impending match.
Nets
At the end of play on the grass courts the net should be lowered and the posts removed and lowered
to the ground. On the Astroturf the posts should be left in place and the nets just lowered.
Cars and Bicycles
The Groundsman has asked the we do not drive or cycle anywhere on the grassed areas. It is only fair we
show our appreciation of the great job he does in providing a fantastic surface by not doing so.
Other Users
In May and June there may be occasional use by college students. Normally we have priority on the grass
courts. Extra nets will be put up for them if we are using all 6. The situation on the Astroturf is unclear but try to resolve
any disputes amicably and ensure everyone gets a game. The college may refuse our use of the courts if we seem to be
causing problems.
Padlocks
There are combination padlocks on the car park gate and the Astroturf courts. The combination changes from
time to time so please ask around if you need to know it. If you are the last to leave please put the padlock in place to
secure both gates. If you don't know the combination be aware of the risk of your car being locked in (for example by workmen
leaving before you - "you would cry too, if it happened to you").
